A worker died after he got trapped in a hole when a trench collapsed on him Monday in Holdenville.

Around 3:45 p.m. Monday, Hughes County Central Dispatch 911 received a report that a trench collapsed near Vorhees Street and Third Penn West. Police said in a news release that a local contractor was replacing a compromised sewer line at a home when the trench collapsed, trapping a worker inside.
Emergency crews and agencies responded and worked to rescue the man. Around 11:20 p.m., crews recovered the worker’s body.
The Holdenville Police Department identified the victim as Jose Valenzuela.
An investigation is ongoing and was turned over to OSHA and the Oklahoma Medical Examiner’s Office in coordination with the Holdenville Police Department.
