EQUIPMENT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS THEY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT BOTH KIDS AND THESE BUSINESSES STAY SAFE WHEN CAUGHT SERVING TO MINORS, THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY ONLY PURSUES CHARGES ON THE PERSON WHO SERVED IT. BUT BUSINESSES CAN ALSO FACE FINES WHEN THESE BUSINESSES COMMIT ONE OF THESE VIOLATIONS. THE ABEL COMMISSION WILL ACTUALLY GO THROUGH AND SERVE A VIOLATION TO NOT ONLY THE VIOLATOR, BUT ALSO THE BUSINESS AS WELL. THERE WERE THREE OPERATIONS WHERE THEY LOOKED AT A 64 BUSINESSES WITH THE HELP OF MINOR VOLUNTEERS. EIGHT BUSINESSES WERE CAUGHT SELLING TO MINORS. FIVE OF THEM WERE THE VOLUNTEERS WHO WERE UNDER 21 WERE SERVED, AND THEN THE OTHER THREE WERE ADDITIONAL INDIVIDUAL WAS UNDER 21 WHO WERE ALSO SERVED. THREE MORE VIOLATIONS WERE FOR AN INVALID LIQUOR LICENSE, EITHER ON THE PART OF THE SERVER OR THE BUSINESS. THEY SAY THEY TRIED TO GO TO AREAS WHERE THEY WERE MORE LIKELY TO FIND PEOPLE SERVING ALCOHOL TO MINORS. WE HID AS MANY PLACES AS POSSIBLE AND OF THE PLACES WHERE WE FOUND THE PEOPLE UNDER 21 DRINKING WERE SOME OF THOSE AREAS WHERE THERE ARE A LOT OF, YOU KNOW, YOUNG, YOUNGER ADULTS, YOUNGER KIDS GOING AND DRINKING. THE SHERIFF’S OFFICE SAYS IT’S IMPORTANT TO CONDUCT THESE CHECKS TO KEEP UNDERAGE DRINKING DOWN AND KIDS SAFE. The Cleveland County Sheriff's Office served violations this month to businesses that were caught serving alcohol to minors. The sheriff's office served 11 violations in March. The sheriff's office underwent three operations where they looked into 64 businesses with the help of minor volunteers. “Five of them were the volunteers who were under 21 were served," said McKee. "And then the other three were additional individuals under 21 who were also served."Three more violations were served for an invalid liquor license either on the part of the server or the business.
