It's a small world after all...

Now that Disney owns basically all movies (an exaggeration, but it feels true doesn't it?) it's not a surprise that there's plenty of crossover in its stars. Yet we rarely hear about the stars that didn't end up starring in roles. With some digging, we've found a host of Disney stars who almost played other Disney roles. Cue the Twilight Zone music. Related video above: Viral "Sleeping Beauty" proposalKristen Bell as... Rapunzel The Frozen star auditioned for the role of Rapunzel in the Disney animated hit Tangled. The role went to This Is Us star Mandy Moore, but Bell's audition tape ended up working in her favor when she auditioned for Anna. Bell told Paste: " told me 'Look, if this doesn’t work out, I really want you to meet Chris Buck, who is directing the next Disney film'. So I sat down with Chris, after the audition, in the Disney commissary, and he told me that the next film was going to be a much more traditional Disney musical. I think he was appealing to the fact that I have a more traditional musical theatre voice."Idina Menzel as... also Rapunzel Yep, you read that right. Menzel, who stars as Elsa in Frozen, also auditioned for Rapunzel. She told WeGotThisCovered: "I had auditioned and met the creative people for Tangled, so they kept me in mind for this. I had a meeting with Kristen too. But I think the reading was sort of an audition. Then they came back around, and gave me the gig."Jim Carrey as... Buzz LightyearJim Carrey voiced Ebenezer Scrooge (as well as all the ghosts) in the Disney adaptation of A Christmas Carol. But Joss Whedon revealed that Pixar initially had a few people in mind for the role of Buzz (which went to Tim Allen, of course) one of whom was Jim Carrey. Billy Crystal as... also Buzz LightyearBilly Crystal had the distinction of not even having to audition. He was approached to voice Buzz Lightyear but turned down the role. Crystal regretted the decision, and as a result accepted the role of Mike Wazowski in Monsters, Inc.Bill Murray as... Sully The world is small. Murray was offered the role of James P. "Sully" Sullivan in Monsters, Inc. and would have starred alongside Crystal. However, Murray had famous replaced an agent with... an answering machine.Murray auditioned for the role and, according to Huffington Post, seemed interested in it. But director Pete Docter couldn’t get through to him to offer him the part. But Murray did eventually have a starring role in a Disney movie: Jungle Book, in which he voiced loveable bear Baloo. Robin Williams as... WoodyThe late Robin Williams turned down the role of Woody, and it's all Disney's fault. After he made an inimitable impression as Genie in Aladdin, the studio saw him as a guaranteed money maker. Against his wishes, they used his voice to sell products.This likely contributed to why Williams turned down the role, but we can't know for sure. Emma Watson as... CinderellaThe Harry Potter star played Belle in the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. But before that, she was offered the role of Cinderella (which went to Lily James).In an interview with Total Film Magazine, Watson explained the decision: "I didn't know they were going to make Beauty and the Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella, but when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did. She remains curious, compassionate and open-minded. And that's the kind of woman I would want to embody as a role model, given the choice."Owen Wilson as... Pacha The Emperor's New Groove was initially titled Kingdom of the Sun and began with Emperor Kuzco (voiced by David Spade) who wished for a simple life and Pacha, a llama farmer voiced by Owen Wilson, who wanted to be rich. When they meet and realise they look alike, they offer to swap lives. The project became The Emperor's New Groove when Kingdom of the Sun's director left, and so did Owen Wilson. But Wilson returned to the Disney fold as Lightning McQueen in Cars, Cars 2, and Cars 3.Patrick Stewart as... Cogsworth and Jafar Honestly, he could have done them all. Stewart was approached for Cogsworth while still working on Star Trek: The Next Generation. The same thing happened again when he was offered the villainous role in Aladdin. Eventually, he managed to make his way into the Mouse House by voicing Mr. Woolensworth in 2005's Chicken Little.
