Kyle Hamm
Chief Photographer/Storm ChaserKyle Hamm is a First Alert storm chaser and is the Chief Photographer and News Operations manager at KOCO-TV. When severe weather threatens Oklahoma, you’ll find Kyle piloting First Alert Storm Command with Field Meteorologist Michael Armstrong.
Hamm grew up in Oklahoma and has always had a fascination with Oklahoma weather. He’s been a member of the First Alert Storm team since the early 90’s. He’s covered numerous weather events including Hurricane Andrew in 1992 in both Miami and Louisiana. He’s won several awards over the years and was nominated for an Emmy for KOCO’s coverage of the Laverne tornado in the early 90’s.
From chasing weather to leading our teams from the weather center, Hamm has had a hand in KOCO’s weather coverage for over 30 years. He started working for KOCO in 1981 after completing his Bachelor of Science degree in communications at Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma.
One of his most memorable moments came when he traveled to Houston with Chief Meteorologist Damon Lane and Field Meteorologist Michael Armstrong in First Alert Storm Command to cover Hurricane Harvey in 2017. It was a humbling experience talking with people who had lost everything and documenting their stories. It gave him renewed appreciation for natures awesome power.
Hamm has been Married to his wife Brenda for 31 years. They have three grown sons and five grandchildren. They enjoy spending time in the backyard and playing with their three dogs.
